This is from a site created by a police officer who has to attend idiots attempt to gain Darwin award status.

If youre so full of yourself to think it will happen to you, at least think of the police, SES, Ambulance and fire brigade that have to scrape your remains off the road and your family and friends who have to arrange your burial!

Flathead_21: they took one when the guy who was driving it strapped afterburners on the roof. the driver consequently plastered himself at the side of a cliff.

they still take speeding cars it just has to add an additional element of sheer stupidity.

Well that certainly shows you how weak a car is, and makes you think about how dangerous the roads really are.

Stupid site...
Crash's happen, we don't need to see it all.
Its a issue that has been raised contless times on the forums and yes we have come to the conclusion speeding is stupid.

Though I don't agree with the way you stereotype anyone that speeds into a stupid speed craving lunatic that has no respect or concern for those around them, family and emergency services. That is a load of BS, people are always going to put their foot down that little more than they should, though it may be supprising to you some people actually drive for a living and over time gain a much beter understanding of driving than most ever will and therfore feel they can speed that little more... does it make them an inconsiderate lunatic? I dont think so... Maybe a little nieve..

Also we drive around in big cubes of metal doin 100+ most days of our life, EVERYONE does, therefore it is only enevitable that we crash on a dialy basis to. I mean shit I've seen some people get their lisence after 5 goes of trying only because they're felt sorry for when they should be no where near a road let alone a car. Old people that drive are dangerous.. even if you get a flu your not at your full awareness FFS.. but is this seen as bad as havin a couple beers and hittin the road.... fuck no

This site is built by a cop that sees the shit all the time and yes he'll be sick of it, but its not necassary to make the site.

In the world we live in today they are casualties of the way our society is built. There is nothing we can do about it short of get rid of cars.

Deal with it.

Wrong.

There are still dickheads who dont get it. They do many times the legal speed limit on dangerous roads. They are aware that what they are doing is illegal. They are aware that its likely an accident will occur and lives will be lost. But they do it anyway.

Inconsiderate lunatics ? Yep.

Yes accidents happen to everyone. All drivers at some point will have an accident. But driving at 100km over the speed limit increases your chances of an accident exponentially. Speed cameras dont stop them, television ads dont stop them because they are not explicit enough.

There are speeding/drink driving ads in NZ which explicitly show the scenes of high speed crashes. Uncensored. All the gory details. During prime time television programming. The road toll due to speeding over there (per capita) is half that in Australia.

The images need to be put out there. Because the inconsiderate lunatics aren't getting it through their thick heads.

As a Highway Patrol Officer, every time I stop somebody, it costs them money but I feel it's better than it costing them their life. I walk away with satisfaction knowing that I have slowed them down and quite possibly saved theirs, or somebody else's, life.

Shows the wreck of the red VL commodore and the inside cabin area of the Silver VP Commodore. A mess, you would agree?
The motorist on the receiving end of the infringement notice leaves the scene upset or angry with the Police Officer. I wonder how many of them, really think about it and say to themselves "well perhaps I was going a bit quick That Police Officer did a good job." Perhaps they should see some of these photos.

I completely agree.

Mate it still won't make a the slightest difference. You think these people don't know what will happen if they hit another car or a tree at 180ks n hour? We see pictures of carnage, mangled body parts and smashed up cars all the time but does it stop anyone.. narr, we are desensitiesed to it all now, if if they showed all the pics on TV it might as well be a movie. Maybe if they saw it in real life they'd think twice but until then nothing.
I grew up in the country, as alot on here would have and out there people dont give a rats arse about the speed limit once they leave town. I know how they think and I know their reasoning behind their actions and its not because they're "crazy"

Alot of young drivers yes.. like most of the young VL driving population I will agree are mindless hoons out to stir shit and have a good time, that is stupid but pictures of carnage on TV won't make any difference.

[EDIT] - Oh and I'm not promoting or agreeing with speeding here. I'm just saying pictures of carnage and smashed up cars don't help nothin.

Obviously they have never read the darwin awards before...
The Arizona Highway Patrol were mystified when they came upon a pile of smoldering wreckage embedded in the side of a cliff rising above the road at the apex of a curve. The metal debris resembled the site of an airplane crash, but it turned out to be the vaporized remains of an automobile. The make of the vehicle was unidentifiable at the scene.

The folks in the lab finally figured out what it was, and pieced together the events that led up to its demise.

It seems that a former Air Force sergeant had somehow got hold of a JATO (Jet Assisted Take-Off) unit. JATO units are solid fuel rockets used to give heavy military transport airplanes an extra push for take-off from short airfields.

Dried desert lakebeds are the location of choice for breaking the world ground vehicle speed record. The sergeant took the JATO unit into the Arizona desert and found a long, straight stretch of road. He attached the JATO unit to his car, jumped in, accelerated to a high speed, and fired off the rocket.

The facts, as best as could be determined, are as follows:

The operator was driving a 1967 Chevy Impala. He ignited the JATO unit approximately 3.9 miles from the crash site. This was established by the location of a prominently scorched and melted strip of asphalt. The vehicle quickly reached a speed of between 250 and 300 mph and continued at that speed, under full power, for an additional 20-25 seconds. The soon-to-be pilot experienced G-forces usually reserved for dog-fighting F-14 jocks under full afterburners.

The Chevy remained on the straight highway for approximately 2.6 miles (15-20 seconds) before the driver applied the brakes, completely melting them, blowing the tires, and leaving thick rubber marks on the road surface. The vehicle then became airborne for an additional 1.3 miles, impacted the cliff face at a height of 125 feet, and left a blackened crater 3 feet deep in the rock.

Most of the driver's remains were not recovered; however, small fragments of bone, teeth, and hair were extracted from the crater, and fingernail and bone shards were removed from a piece of debris believed to be a portion of the steering wheel.

Ironically a still-legible bumper sticker was found, reading
"How do you like my driving? Dial 1-800-EAT-SHIT."

How could they ever compete against us Americans :)

Mate I grew up in the country. My friends, family and I obeyed the speed limit at all times. Its not all that hard to do. Where have you got to be thats so important that you cant get there 10 minutes later ? Whatever it is has gotta be less important than staying alive.

If that site saves one person's life then it would be worth it. It cant do any harm can it ?
