Floatation Tanks and You

Hi,

My name is Mac Dude, I’m a sexy young chick and I'm new to Atomic.

oopsie.

Sorry, there has been a bit of that lately...

Anyway, what I REALLY wanted to talk about was Floatation Tanks.

Awesome devices they were.

For those of you who don't know what I'm on about, let me explain. A floatation tank is usually a fibreglass tank, coffin shaped but bigger. Instead of the whole lid coming off, there would be a hatch. Inside would be completely dark (duh) and the tank would have a few inches(maybe 4, I’m guessing) of VERY salty water in it.

The purpose of the salt in the water was to increase your buoyancy – you would float like a cork. The water was a body temperature, so very quickly you couldn’t feel it.

So, you get into this contraption shut the hatch and stretch out. You are in a soundproof chamber, you can’t see anything and because the salty water is at body temp, you can’t feel anything.

Apart from the salty smell, it’s

Sensory depravation time - no sound, no touch, no sight (like the forums, only different).

I used to do this once a week for a few months. The feeling was fantastic. For me, I’d be asleep in about 5 minutes. Muscles would relax and there was absolutely NOTHING to bother you. You would come out feeling mega relaxed/refreshed.

They were awesome, but a fad and no too popular.

They popped back into my head a few days ago during conversation, and I was wondering if anyone else had taken this trip…

Well?

It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again. It does this whenever it's told.

Yah, I did the float a couple of times about 13 years ago. It induced some really weird sensations for a little while after the session.

Of course, at that time in my life I was more interested in chugging litres of Coke and going off my tree, so relaxation didn't rate highly in my pantheon of "Things to Do".

I've found out that there is one up the road from where I live though, so I might give it another go soon...

I though a floatation tank is an armored heavy assault vehicle that does not use conventional caterpillars but hovers on air.

Never got round to trying one, always wanted to. If I can find one still out there I would give it a go.

Do they let you go in naked?

Let me know if you find one in Melbourne, Mac Dude.

Grams and I were talking about it a while ago, but I guess we both forgot :s
