It may not take too long for great 3D game engines to switch to DX 9. I just read Massive Developments modernised the Krass engine TM to support Directx 9 - and its out in this quarter. I don't personally like submarine based games, but the engine is surperb. http://www.massive.de/english/index_eng.html 01/30/2003 AquaMark 3 is coming this quarter! Development of AquaMark 3 is progressing well, so we are glad to be able to announce its release for Q1 of this year. AquaMark 3 is the follow-up of the AquaMark 2.3 which had so far only be available for professional usage. AquaMark 3 will be a fully DirectX 9-capable cutting-edge benchmark based on our krass™ engine which also powers AquaNox 2: Revelation. The AquaMark 3 benchmark allows users to observe the new graphical techniques made possible by DirectX 9 and determine the performance of these features in a real world application. Contrary to its predecessor the AquaMark 3 will be available for public download. http://www.massive.de/german/index_ger.html?technology_krass_ger.html General · Well documented, robust and clean CPP interface · Well designed lean and extensible architecture · Highly modular · Object-oriented Mathematics system · Optimized vector, angle, matrix and coordinatesystem libraries · Fast equation solvers (linear, quatric, cubic, quartic) · Optimized splines - Bezier - Hermite - CatmullRom · Optimized interpolation and extrapolation methods - Linear - Bilinear (area) -Trilinear (volume) Realtime physics system · Physical basic components (spring, damper, joint...) · Optimized "equations of motion" integration methods · Particle system dynamics (mass points) · Full rigid body dynamics · Full flexible body dynamics (bones, combined coordinate systems) · Extensive support for jointed bodies · Fast dynamic contact response calculation system - Instantaneous collision support (hard spheres etc.) - Virtual overlap collision support (soft spheres etc.) · Fast dynamic friction calculation system · Advanced dynamic body controlling and steering system (PID controller) · Sophisticated dead reckoning system (distributed object syncronization) Geometry system · Simple primitive support (sphere, box, plane, triangle, ...) · Complex primitive support (convex hull, quadrics, ...) · Intersection system · Hierarchical collision detection system · Optimized scene and grid definitions · Efficient visiblility culling and determination system · Intersection system · Hierarchical collision detection system · Optimized scene and grid definitions · Efficient visiblility culling and determination system Vector engine system · Full polygonal primitive support (polygon, mesh) · Extremely efficient polygonal visibility determination · Very high polygon throughput, capable of handling large outdoor scenes · High speed illumination systems (colored, dynamic and directed lights) · Unified standard renderer support (D3D(tm), Glide(tm), OpenGL(tm), Software) · On the fly switching between D3D(tm), Glide(tm) and OpenGL(tm) · Advanced software renderer - Depth buffer (Z/W), - Gouraud shading (RGB), - Subpixel accuracy (screencoords / texturecoords), - Perspective correction (piecewise linear) - Alpha-blending and transparency · Import of Kinetix 3DS Max scenes and objects · Full ASCII data and object formats Effect system · Mesh modifiers (creation, deformation, procedural skeleton animation) · Multiple texture map support · Support for displacement-, bump- and environmentmapping · Post rendering system (lens flares, overlays) · Particle visualization system · Sharp and soft edged shadow system · Sharp edged light cone system · Sophisticated fog system (depth cueing, unlimited, colored volumetric fogs) Application support · Full distributed interactive simulation framework · Complete simulation-visualization decoupling · World and entity framework · Event based messaging system · I/O system Sound · Full 3-D spatialization (position, doppler, obstacles ...) · Supports DirectSound, EAX, MP3 ... · Extensive support for the Miles(tm) Soundsystem Portability · Win95/98/NT · Linux · Mac OS · Next generation consoles (PSX2, Xbox) ------ Message Edited By: g__day, 31/1/03 8:19:08 AM -----

"Portability · Win95/98/NT · Linux · Mac OS" WTF??? If it was a Open GL based game/benchmark, this would make sense, but a DX9 based game, doesn't. Unless of course they use some emulation layer ala winex of course, in which case, why would you bother. ----- I am ready to RTFM, just point me in the right direction.... The brown-nosed-nazi-lamer strikes again..... asleep at wheel, 3 times now.... trigger happy as well it seems
