Debt recovery help

Recently my old man has been having some issues with a real estate/property management business not paying his bills/invoices. He is a handyman and does odd jobs around the place, and his main source of work comes from property management business' to complete work on rental properties.

To sum up all things, the property management business received numerous letters regrading payments for completed jobs and have failed to pay them. I suspect that what they have done is wait until they no longer manage the property to pull this shit out, as they do not want to pay. The business has recently sent a letter to my Dad effectively saying that, we no longer manage this property and you have to consult the owner directly to receive your payment. And supplied his address.

My question is, isn't the property management group still required to pay the bills, although they no longer manage the property in question. As they were the ones who issued the work order(s), should they still be the one's paying and in there own time chase up the debt from the owner of the property?

Yes, but don't take my word for it. Consult a lawyer.

For debt recovery help consult the following site if you're in NSW, if you're in another state it might still help as a general guide

Yeah, I spoke with my Dad, he is in the process of sending them a letter of demand, threatening court action regrading other unpaid bills. I am just not sure about the bill in regards OP though.

I am still pretty sure, that although the job was taken under the property management group, they cannot just shoe it off to another party like that.

If the property managers hired him, they are liable for the fee.
Does he still have a copy of the work order, or was it verbal?

Sounds like it was plural, work order(s) so it looks like they really are are just trying to dodge payment.

OK, if I ask you to fix my car, and then after you fix it I sell the car, should the new owner have to pay your bill?

A challenge to a perceived consensus is a challenge to all the powers in human society, as it can take a person’s understanding of the world we live in, and flip it upside down.
