I'm not worried about the clubs in the city.
Pubs out in Blacktown - they worry me a bit more.
But I think if you don't piss off pissheads - it shouldn't be a problem.

I have absolutely no interest in going to night clubs or any of the places in the CBD that seem to have most of these problems. I just like a nice quiet pub or bar that I can actually converse with people. The places I like going just tend not to have drunk fuckwits who like starting fights.

I don't know where everybody's going to be surrounded by all this violence.

I've been going out in the city for over 20 years, and have never even seen a fight, let alone been glassed in the face or whatever is supposed to happen nowadays.

But then again I don't go around looking for trouble. I just look for beer.

Most of the places I go everyone is pilling, therefore a vast majority of the populace is quite happy and non-violent.

i doubt im the kind of person who people would try to fight with. never the less, one of the reasons i dont go to clubs (apart from the expense and that fact that i dont like the taste of alcohol) is i dont like the idea of hanging around a whole heap of slightly drunk people.

its hard to hold an intelligent conversation, of nothing else.

I'm not sure if I'm surprised by these results. I think it's great that many seem to revolt against the angst that haunts these venues.

I'm not reluctant to go into the CBD and/or nightclubs due to violence, I'm just way past that stage in life :)

Having said that - we got 5 free passes in the mailbox at work for some strip club in King St. It was funny because at first we was all keen to go, yelling woohoo free passes, and checking out the babes on the calender that came with the passes, until we realised we all got missus' and there's NOTHING scarier than a pissed off missus! :P

Nup, not at all, Im not a tough guy or anything, but I'll go where ever I please, whenever I please.

Im not stupid so I wont generally get into a fight, but if I do, I can handle myself well enough to stun and run. hanging around for a street fight is bad news, they almost always end up out of control and on the news.

It's the idiots with a chip on thier shoulder and something to prove that cause all the trouble. After 18 years of hitting clubs, you can pick them out easily and avoid them.

I wouldn't say that Hungry Jacks on Geoge street is that violent, I lost my wallet there in March this year, and wanbdered back from the pub I was at, by myself at 2 am, through crowds of fucktards with smart mouths, and with a very serious look on my face, I was obviously searching for something, and no-one so much as looked at me sideways. I got my wallet back from a homeless guy, with the $1200 still in it! (he was about to strip it but i spotted him, and it, and relieved him of it non violently.

If we all get around afraid of shadows and sesationalised news reports the world would be a much sadder place. Toughen up people!

Even when I walk in the city, sometimes I've had people become wordy with as much as a glance. "What the fuck you looking at cunt?" is something I've heard too many times on a Saturday night.

I used to get that too, sunglasses and headphones my friend, and a thousand yard stare.

Being nice freaks people out, and when freaked out, dumb people tend to punch, and on the whole, most people are dumb.

I was staying at a pub in the city for an early flight to Melbourne for a 4 day F1 fest at Albert Park.

I dropped my wallet at HJ's after an early morning drunken munch fest.

Last time I'll ever take cash, too scary when you lose it and have a 4 day holiday in front of you.

Most cash I've ever carried was $11,000 after picking up a payment for a job I did. I remember walking through the CBD looking for an ANZ sweating that no-one noticed my fleeting eyes, nervous disposition and giant wallet bulge.

Naa.. no pills for me anymore, that shit eventually fucks up your ability to be happy. I like being happy.

I don't go to Northbridge at night anymore, haven't for years, doesn't scare me, just don't need the hassle.

Like several in this thread though clubs are really not my scene anymore, a quiet pub or more likely stay at home.

Cheers

Oddly enough I've felt far safer in Melbourne's CBD at night than Perth's. I've always felt I've had to be on my toes in Perth probably due to the lack of people, but I've never had that issue the few times I've been out in Melbourne at night.

That said, I tend to be quite safe when I'm out at night. For some reason catastrophe never seems to follow me anywhere, I seem to be lucky enough to go invisible to most of the ruffians trying to start crap. But yeah, Perth at night has become a bit more dodgy in the past couple of years I've noticed, more people trying to start stuff.

I can't recall ever really having any trouble, walking around late at night. Maybe I just don't walk around the really bad areas through sheer luck.

So, the CBD is fine, I guess. But nightclubs? I won't go out of my way to walk past them, but I usually go out of my way to avoid going in to them. Noisy places are noisy.

Well, you don't go to Hungry Jacks on George St opposite the cinemas (Sydney) - but you kind of know that because of the blood stains on the ground.

You kind of learn where it's stupid to go.

I think I've been to that HJ late at night many-a-time, and never had a bad moment. Apart from the food.

Keep in mind man, a lot of the places where this party / drunk violence seems to break out are in concerntrated ereas. It has a lot to do with the kinds of establishments where this shit goes down.
