If you do it, make absolutely certain that a breakup or similar situation will be an amicable one and that you'd both be able to keep it together.

How do you ensure that?

I don't know, I kind of considered the hot chicks at work as off-limits and never went there so I didn't have to do it, but logically it'd be in the best interests of both parties to keep their dirty laundry out of the office.

Of course, that's using logical and rational thinking, which as we all know, seldom works :P

What's the worst that could come from it?

She could talk to the higher ups in a casually derogatory way, get them to lose confidence in him, give him all the shitty jobs that no-one else will do, give him bad reference to make it hard to get another job, pressure him in the workplace to do things he doesn't want to...

Like I said, if you go for it start looking for another job right now, while the reference will be glowing :)

I agree actually - try to create a situation whereby you can easily leave your current job, in case the situation turns sour. Since you most likely don't know what she is like to her ex's, why allow for the possibility that life will turn shit, when you can be proactive about leaving your options open. This doesn't mean quitting your current job, but continually keep an eye out for different ones out there. Have a resume ready to go on your desktop and keep a job guide underneath your pillow. :)

Geez Jimmy, where you been?

I really don't see a problem, used to run a company with an ex-wife, have had, um, rather a lot of office romances. Where I work now there are three, I think, relationships going on, nobody has an issue with it.

Cheers

Well thanks guys. Heaps of input. The advise is great. You have given me something to think about. Hopefully I will report back in a few months that I still have my job and am not homeless and crying.

Hey Chris hows it going mate.

Meh, I've seen plenty of couples in workplaces where couples normally aren't allowed, because the management could see their relationship wasn't effecting their work.

Now, there's also the argument against couple because if there's problems it could translate to issues with them working together, but if you treat your work life professionally, this shouldn't be a problem.

I think any sane manager would not care as long as you continue to do your job to a high standard.

Warning
Every word you read of this useless tagline is another second off your life. Get outside. Meet a member of the opposite sex. Start a fight. Prove you're alive. If you don't claim your humanity you will become a statistic.
