Labor's new phone spam ... a stupid move

Some metropolitan Adelaide residents have been answering their phones today to hear recorded messages from Labor's Peter Garrett and Maxine McKew.

I think this is a stupid move, politically. People don't like unsolicited calls. Unsolicited recorded messages are doubly insulting.

Liberal MP Andrew Southcott says 'it highlights the flim-flam approach of Rudd Labor.'

But that's a bit rich, frankly, given that John Howard himself pioneered this technique in the last election.

Labor does says it is honouring the 'do not call' register, even though political calls are exempt from that register. But I think this kind of action will cost them more votes than it creates.

Yeah, dumb move in my opinion. It wasn't received well when Liberal did it, why would it be different for Labor?

I got sent a magnet today for a local campaign....

The image of a balding old man to stick to my fridge just didn't win my vote...

But it was better than a recorded message i must admit.

Doesn't matter- it's useless without his hypnotic and mesmerising style of dance. He should have gone with YouTube messages or something :P

But yeah, probably not smart. It's not wise to piss off the people you're relying on.

Because Labor seems to think that voters will be dazzled so much by a message from a couple of celebrities that they wont mind being hassled at home.

Ask John Hewson. He should be able to tell you all about it.

I heard (I wasn't around to witness it first hand) the 1961 elections mentioned in this context. Last time my seat was of interest, anyway.
